yellow in jar
    #4333392 - 06/24/05 07:22 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I have had a fully colonized jar set aside for over a month. When I took it out this morning I noticed certain spots of the mycelium have a yellowish tint. I have heard that this can happen when it comes in contact with water on the side of the jar, but could it be something else? Perhaps a contam? I am fixin' to dunk it tonight. Am I good to go? Thanks. Peace.

Not a contam, its called myellial piss. Perfectly normal for a fuly colonise jar that has been sitting for a month. Why are you letting it sit around??

Well I live in a dorm room so I have limited space/freedom to leave shit out in plain view. It was my fifth jar out of five that made it without contamination. And yes I am using 2-liter coke bottles. And yes I have produced some relatively bangin mexi-cubs, as my wild trip last night demonstrated. That is why I am excited to birth this last cake. Thanks for your help. Peace.

I advise against smelling any jar that could have a possible contamination, there is a shroomery memeber who got pretty sick from exposing himself to mold spores too often. If in doubt throw it out, not smell it. But from what you say; a jar that is fully colonized for over a month, sound like mycellial piss.

It's called metabolyte and it's normal, but you still shouldn't let them sit like that. The mycelium loses vigor and won't produce as well as when it's actively growing.

don't smell like it's a line of coke. you can do what scientist do and hold it away from you while using your hand to fan it towards your nose. besides a contaminated cake smells pretty bad to not know something is wrong. Use common sense.

Exactly!~

---

and don't go huffing jars that might be contaminated!~
some molds will cause serious medical problems.
we have had several members get very sick from smelling contaminated jars.

when in doubt...

throw it out!~
