Posted in Adv. cult. , Got pushed here last time.
So...
I've got some azures colonizing on some Alder chips...
I soaked some Oak dust/chips...
I"ve read that having a grain with the wood is
So...Should I mix my woodchips up with some wbs, pc, then mix that with my spawn...?
Or would wood chips alone be fine?
And how long would I pc it.
I've found Some info., but not everything yet.
Thankx.

If you're going to attempt to sterilize the oak chips, mixing some grain should be ok if you're careful and mix it at a low ratio (to avoid high contam rates). Typically, I hear wheat bran is good supplement. Chips alone will work though, especially if you have a good array of sizes (like it sounds like you do).
Sterilization times depend on the volume of material being sterilized. Usually though, wood chips require significantly longer times than other materials (~2-4 hours).
Hope that helps somewhat...

you could use a wood chip/bran mixture at a 3-5:1 ratio. Wood chips:bran. Dont use seed, bugs and birds will pick it out onces its outside and it contams easily. Bran fuses with the chips and leaves virtualy nothing for the insect to eat. You wont be able to mix your colonized chips with these, you will need to get a good chunk of mycelium growing on some agar and then use that for an lc then knoc up your wood chip/bran jars. You could also soak and boil a hand full of chips and then mix them with whqat you have and wait until they are colonized. Then repeat the process adding more and more chips each time Gl

Does Azures growth look weak like Pan Cyans?...Or more like P.cubes?
I've noticed that trying different Mushrooms is a great way to go
Awesome so far and learning a bunch.
Thankx to Tahoe (for helping me out w/ some stuff) and others for their help..Thankx
Alright, so enough
Soaked my chips till they all pretty much sank...Then I drained for about an hour, until they had what i thought would be a nice water content...Which wasn't to hard but wood chips are nothing like verm and grains ...lol
I mixed up my bran and oak chips...as Tahoe suggested, each Qt. got 1/8 cup of bran...
3 qts' = 1/4 and 1/8 of bran...
I have them in the PC now, going to let them stay in there for an hour and then let cool...
After that i'm not quite sure where to go...
I also boiled chips for an hour to add to my spawn...I think Tahoe said I'd need to knock up these quarts with LC...So I went ahead and just boiled a handful of chips and planned on mixing those with some already colonized azure chips...Oh, and they are mixed w/ bran (same ratio)...
Uhh...And I was wondering...Could I make an LC with an already colonized wood chip? I'm pretty sure that you can but I don't know much about wood loving species and i'm sure i'll probably NEVER get this wonderful chance to try out Azures, So i've been looking around a lot and asking plently of questions to make sure that I get it right.
Thankx everyone.
If this works out I'll def. move up in the world and take some pics haha

I'd dip it in h2o2. I have read of people using sawdust in azure LC, it may make it harder to spot contams though.

i agree w/ this. use 20% bran in wood chips while colonizing spawn indoors. spawn that, to wood chips only, when you move it outdoors in early spring. luck man
damn squirrels will steel grain even when it is buried in shit

So how about my FC is 78F-80F
Decided to boil some hot water with a dab of salt.
Freeze it in the containers...Then wipe with alcohol when they're frozen.
Place inside FC....Keep it a bit cooler hopefully...I have plently of plastic containers so...
Going well so far
