Is this jar of WBS too wet ?
    #4332136 - 06/24/05 01:23 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Hey,
This is my fisrt try with grains, and just got through PCing some WBS
using the 6T WBS Tek. I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions exactly, but the jars seem a little too wet...more so than I'm used to seeing with BRF. So tell me, do you think these will be ok to knock up, or should I just start over ?

I soaked the seed for 12 hours, then rinsed and strained for 40 minutes, then loaded used tyvek, lid and double coffee filters and PC'ed them for 70 minutes.

Here's a closeup:

Some of the seeds seem to be sticking to the sides of the jar after being shaken...is that normal ??

Thanks !!

Those look fine to me. My jars of WBS always look like that and I have never had a problem.

Thanks Wronguy,
I just needed to be sure as this is my last 5cc's of last syringe. Just didn't want to waste it.

just? so is it still hot? grains can appear wet straight out of a PC, when cooled they will appear drier.

you should use a LC if you want to stretch your syringes life.

Well, those pictures were taken about 2-1/2 hours out of the PC. They don't look quite as wet as they did when I first took them out. So maybe there is hope for them.

Thanks for the advice on LC...I'm trying to step up little by little.
I think I've got the cake thing mastered. If this is a success, I may try to do a Liquid Culture next. I've just heard that there is a high contamination rate with LC's and I don't have a flow hood or anything fancy like that. (Although my wife does like how clean the kitchen and bathroom are during these little projects !)

The pictures look fine. But if you want to be sure.. just look all around and make sure there is nothing mushy.. no spots where water is collecting... If so.. then they are good.

In another life I wrote that TEK.

So long as you don't see any water pooled, or pooling in the bottom of a wbs jar, you should be good to go.

12 hours isn't very long - for a soak. 24 is better, IMHO.

You should do fine.
