Real-world telepathy test
    #4331381 - 06/24/05 06:55 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

It is called "Poker".

Take your telepathine and/or shrooms or just use you natural intuition and make many thousands of dollars and live a life of leisure and luxury.

Ready...begin!

Im going to play devils advocate on this one. So suppose that people who have developed telepathic powers, have done so by trancending wordly material desires and concerns, and as such have no incling to play such petty games like poker for peices of silly paper, with "in god we trust" written on them, like some kind of ironical message to the materially minded world.

Also, consider for a minute, that maybe the only people who develop these so called "powers" are beyond the desires of sense gratification, and therefore have no need for any material rewards other than what is needed to keep there bodies functioning in this world. In short, they see material possessions as just so much accumilated grabage that is of no use to anyone at the time of death.

Would you consider the "real" telepathy challenge to play online instead of at the casino?

Responsibility comes with power. Cheating with telepathy would be no better than cheating the good old way

I would not play for money while on shrooms...even if you could be telepathic you still wouldn't be worth a shit for paying attention.

Cheating? Popular mythology has it that we are all telepathic to some degree.

Am I cheating because I am superior in math skills and in calculating odds than most players?

I only count about 4 or 5 major and totally unsubstantiated assumptions. Hard to discuss when the fantasy level approaches 100%. We need a little factual basis thrown in. The soup cannot be all broth.

Of course im not asking you to accept this as anywhere near fact. All im asking is that you consider the possibility that however unlikely, this may indeed be the case, and if it were, it would certainly provide some rational explanation for why such people do not demonstrate their powers openly. What kind of factual basis were you looking for in a thread about telepathy.

Even if everyone are telepathic, the rules of the game do not include reading minds, or any other way of cheating.

What you say could be applied to normal cheating too. Everyone can do it, it's just that some are more skillfull, but that goes for stealing, killing, raping and many more things.

We are.

I've experienced it, I know its real.

The one soul problem with your arguement is this:

YOU CANNOT CONSIOUSLY CONTROL IT!!!

This explains why so many people believe and have experience telepathy but yet nobody has passsed your money challenge.

Yes, I spontaneously and quite randomly read the minds of everyone around me. It makes thinking my own thoughts quite difficult.

Oh wait, nevermind, those are just the other voices in my head, acting as if they are the thoughts of other people. Damn schizophrenia.

Uncontrollable telepathy?

When I play roulette my powers of telekinesis cannot be controlled, but amazingly work about 1/36 of the time. This claim cannot be refuted.

You can refute it to yourself, you know wheather you were just guessing or actually felt someone's thoughts

People are not capable of self-deception? Or are you saying that the Swami Awareness is so keen as to preclude me from normal human failings?

Now, I haven't experienced ever anything that might be considered telepathy, but from what I know about that concept, it is not anything like guessing, but an actual experience much different from anything normal that happens in the brain (imagining, guessing, thinking, visualizing etc. )
So you can always rule out any of these things. What is left is only hallucination or some other anomaly in perception.
But if this hallucination actually tells you some accurate information, then you can rule it out as being a hallucination, and there you have it, you have proven yourself that you have experienced telepathy.

You can only self-decieve yourself in situations like trying to guess something and then attributing that to telepathy or whatever.
But if you experience an experience like you never have before (like a vision or a hallucination or voices in your head) and that experience tells you something objective (like what was the other guy thinking), after veryfying the information there is no other conclusion then that there was some kind of transfer of thought.

What other explanation can you use? That for the first time in your life you had a vision of something, and that something happened to be some knowledge that you did not have and turned out to be true?
Let's calculate the chance of that. Take the number of minutes in your life (in which a hallucination may acour) and multiply with the number of possibilities of what that vision carried, you get an almost infinite number...to one.
