Incompotent to stand trial

What exactly happens if you're found incompotent to stand trial? What is your situation, your rights, etc.? I'm reminded of the street preacher who kidnapped the mormon girl in Utah a few years ago. Awhile ago at some preliminary hearing or something, he started singing Opera tunes to the court. He did this several times and eventually was deemed incompotent to stand trial.

So what legal rights do eccentric criminals get?

Pretty much... assuming that the person is a danger to themselves or society... and if they are in court for some reason, this is typically the case. When this happens, the 'funny farm' gets to keep them until the doctors deem the person is no longer a threat... this can sometimes be much less time than they would have gotten from the courts, but this can also last much longer than they would have gotten from the courts. (I'm no lawyer, this is how I understand it to work in the US. I could easily be wrong... )

They might also have to stand trial after they get certified competent, if they avoided the trial on the basis of an after the act onset of lunacy. They'll fix you up and then make you stand trial. If you are found not guilty by reason of insanity in a trial they can keep you forever.
