Experienced Photoshopers | Give Some Advice
    #4330584 - 06/24/05 12:14 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I'm fairly new with Photoshop. I've done some stuff, like my signature you see, on Photoshop CS, but I'd like to get into making my own work, like what you'd see in the picture section of the Shroomery. Can anyone give some good advice or tutorials or lessons...anything that would help? Appreciate it

I guess creating pictures is the best way to say it. Like what you did in Krystal, and like what some other people have done in the galleries that were inspired by shrooms and such

heh "creating pics" is such an inaccurate way of saying it, theres tons of different ways to how you can put together a pic in ps and every person has atleast slightly different methods that they prefer

you just have to find out what all the tools and such in ps can do and then combine and use them in the way that pleases u

maybe it?ll give ya a slight clue if i tell how i put together my pic above, some people use plain photoshop for everything but in this1 i rendered several plain base pics of the "crystals" in 3dsmax then used ps to make bunch of copies of them and resize and move them into better position that i thought would work.. after that i just played with layer styles and blending modes to get those trippy colors, and added some horizontal blur to one of the layers.

one good thing to learn is layer styles/blending modes cause every1 has to use them sometimes if they wanna accomplish anything.. in ps u should see list of layers somewhere in right toolbar and double clikin them gives ya bunch of options like gradient overlays and such where u can play with them. just gotta go fool around with ps and experiment yaself what all it can do.

excuse me for typos and possible dullness of post it was midsummer fest here yesterday and i had hangover of the year this morning..

another common way of making pics is use of different airbrushes, u can carefull draw outline of figure thats in your mind and then start filling it with colors and blending them together with different brushes like smudge/blur etc.. heres one example i created by using only different PS airbrushes alone

http://personal.inet.fi/yhdistys/budsicle/deity.jpg

but this method is very time consuming and drawing the deity figure above took me like from several days to week and i never bothered to really finish it with more proper background and such.

well, I'm not very good at giving advice and instructions, heh, but here's a collage pic of a piece I made a while back...  it's basically a snapshot from every save file I made for that project.  It shows my methods and how I put in the details etc.  The pic was made entirely with the airbrush/paintbrush and HEAVY use of the smudge tool.  Here's a link to the pic, it's 2.9mb so I didn't want to actually post it in the thread hehe

there are a bunch of books on photoshop about techniques, tricks, and tip at your local bookstore. You can have access to all that information for free by doing a google search on Photoshop Tutorials.
good luck!
