Cakes and LC's. Couple Questions.

Hey. Well, after not doing any cakes for over two months, I made up a dozen to test out the LC's I had made. My LC's were made from multi-spore. 2 EQ, 2 Maz and 1 PESH. None of these were "snow white". Wasn't even sure if they were any good. Had black floaters I hoped were ungerminated spores. Anyhow, I decide to do one jar for each LC. One is enough right ? If it colonizes and doesn't contam it's safe to assume the LC is O.K., correct ?
All 5 cakes colonized in about 10 days. Was too busy to deal with them at the time so I left them in the incubator another 10 days. Decided to birth them Monday morning after a 24 hour dunk. There were no signs of any invitro pinning, just nice white cakes.

As you can see, all cakes have pins. My question is, Do cakes that are started via LC's pin faster. I did 75 cakes for my first grow and none of those cakes had any pins before a weeks time. All 5 of these do ? The conditions are not even best suited for cakes. 74 degrees and 89% humidity. Are getting a great deal of fresh air via coolmist.
What I'm wondering is if the LC made the difference or if the fresh air is making the difference. My first cakes had two bubblers in each chamber so they were getting fresh air. Just had me wondering.
Thanks.

Nice pinset, chick I don't think it was the LC. it was the LC why they colonized fast, I believe it was the conditions they incubated in, you "left" them awhile (ideal), the dunk, and that verm has something to do with it. I also think it goes to show the noobs, given the right conditions, when it's ready, it's gonna go
Again, very nice.

Thats the thing though, My first cakes were all treated the same way. Left after full colonization for a week, dunked and double end cased. None pinned that fast though. Only difference was usung the LC and being in the greenhouse, more fresh air. Didn't really think it was the LC, a colonized cake is a colonized cake , right ? Thanks for the kind words.

Yeah, using LC promotes almost mature and usually fairly aggressive mycelium, which will colonize mush faster. i'm guessing that extra 10 dayz in the incubator didn't hertz anything either nice work
PS. we are using "LC" to to stand for "liquid culture", but it also means loving care

I'm guessing the extra 10 days in the incubator is why they are ready to go. Even though you only left them in the incubator a few more days than your first grow, maybe they were just about to go invetro.
Maybe the strain has something to do with it too.
But either way, looks like you some good spores & pins there.
Take care H.C.
