This should be in gatherings but there's already one there and I want to see what pubbers are going to be there.
So we now know that the gathering will be held near Elkins, WV in the national forest.. people are there now.. the main gathering seems to be July 1-7th. I am planning on heading there before the 4th and hopefully sticking around until the 15th or so, before heading to the 9th annual All Good Fest.. (which is very close...)

I heard some whispers about the LEO presence trying to crack down on the kind folk out there.. issuing tickets, mandatory court dates.. and who knows what else...picking on the peaceful peoples. We need to get out there in numbers and represent!
Who's planning on coming? And if you are and can hook up a ride for someone please state where you are coming from and if you are willing to pick anyone up.

I've hung out a bit with a dude who has been to many a Rainbow Gathering and the LEO presence is there indeed. His main advice to me (which I'll share with you).... is DON'T SIGN ANYTHING A LEO MIGHT GIVE YOU.
In order to "maintain control" of these peaceful gatherings in OUR public forest land, the govt has mandated that there must be somebody "responsible" for every 70-some(not sure on that number) individuals present on that land. So if you and a carload of kind folk show up in YOUR forest that particular weekend, a ranger might present you with a piece of paper wanting you (or somebody in your vehicle) to sign it and become somewhat "responsible" for the actions of others.
DONT SIGN ANYTHING. It is those people who end up in the court system when they government wants to hold somebody responsible for the actions of the many on what should be free land for us to use. I can't really give any advice on what to say or how to get out of signing it, but don't let them trick you into becoming a dupe.
DON'T SIGN ANYTHING. That was the overriding advice my buddy gave me. Be aware of your rights. The LEOs are, and they will use that knowledge against you.
He also gave me this gem: The only difference between them (the LEOs @ Gatherings) and us (the Rainbows) is that *they* have to hide and keep their reefer smoking out of plain sight.

ay fuck man, why can't LEO lay back and allow a few kind folk to have a nice time in the woods?!
there is currently a rainbow gathering just starting up in northern norway - until the middle of july - but i don't have the time nor the cash to make it up there.
one day, though!

LEO is on the ass of the rainbow every year. It's really annoying. They don't do a damn thing but make it hard for people who just want to chill.
I won't have to deal with them this year. as the national is going to take a LOT of attention off the gathereing i'm going to, but damn. what a pain in the ass. Some people just have to waste their lives being a pain for others.

never! i had actually never even heard of them until i moved from michigan to norway, maybe 3 and a half years ago. now i've gotten in touch with some of the family that lives around here, but unfortunately can't make it to the summer gathering.
what about in the US? do they only have national gatherings, or do they have state-wide gatherings as well? i might be back in michigan in august, and would love to check out the scene!

in the US they have regional gatherings year round. especially in the summer months, it really heats up. there is always a gathering going on somewhere in the summer. Like I mentioned, I'm going to a central missouri gathering that is going on at the same time as the massive national.
but anyway...
Just go to one. As soon as you can. I don't know what the scene is like in europe, but damn, it's just not something you regret, even if it means going broke and loseing your job. It's worth it. (if it's a good gathering, anyway. some of the regionals in the US are nothing too special, but when you hit the really good ones, nothing in this world is better.) PM me if you do end up in michigan come august. There is still plenty going on then, not to mention burning man.
If you like meeting great people, eating great food, and smokeing dank nugs, well, rainbow is a road you should tread on, at least once ( I say at least once, because very few people I have met have done it once and not let it consume them. The rainbow trail has a way of sucking people in after they get their first taste)
Anyway, i've had alot of dissapointing and unexpected things go down so far this summer, but my rainbow gathering is one thing I can count on to be a blast, and I can't wait.

I have been to gatherings in Talladega Nat. Forest, in Alabama. Saw a freaking riot at one! Also went to a gathering in Ocala, Fl. I think that was a national. The pigs were felt everywhere. I am not overly paranoid, but I swear I felt their presence. It made for a crazy shaded out trip, too.
