PDA vs. MEA

So I ordered a basic agar culturing kit from Spore Works. It comes with Malt Extract Agar. I know I am going to need more agar soon but I don't know which one is better PDA or MEA. Any suggestions? What are the pros and cons of these agars?

I'd go with the MEA. It seems like freshly made PDA from potatoes you boil yourself is better than the dehydrated product, but its a subtle difference. MEA is reportedly better for woodloving species if that helps.

2% Malt extract for agar and more dilute for broths, something between 0.5% and 0.1% works pretty good.

Thanks. I was going to do 4%, never heard of 0.1% recommended for a broth before.

I buy all my MEA and Agar Agar from Sporeworks. I don't buy much from Vendors but these products are top notch!~ I'm a cheap bastard...but I won't use lower grade products for agar work.
I use the MEA...and then make my own PDYA from the Agar Agar.
-PDYA- 500ml water 5 grams of instant potato flakes(Potato Buds Brand) 9 grams agar agar 10 ml honey (Raw natural pure honey - Beemaid Brand) 1 gram of Nutritional Yeast
I switch back and forth with the above PDYA recipy and the MEA. And have always gotten great results.

sounds like Johnny 2 times -"I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers"
I have used honey too, it is meant to have anti-bacterial properties.
What are the advantages of low sugar % broths? I have seen studies in threads where the most potent myc was on low % agar. Is there advantages other than saving on ME?
