Hello everyone. I finally got around to picking some mushrooms that were growing on the yard off some poop, but I do beleive I was a bit too late. The mushrooms are far from fresh, and a lot of them had withered away since a few days ago when I first spotted them. First I have a question. when a mushroom turns black is it because it is rotting or affected with mold? Is a mushroom safe to eat if part of it has blackened? That all may have been pointless if these mushrooms aren't edible in the first place....
Habitat: unknown dung or manured lawn, large clusters Location: Southern Ontario Climate: 24 degree celcius average high Stem: Hollow I am taking a sporeprint as I speak, but am not certain as to wether or not these will drop spores because of their age. If/when I get one I will be sure to post it.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help!
P.S. Notice the blackening on the underside? If a mushroom shows this, is it still safe to eat?

Oh yeah... They are about 3 inches long and the caps are about 3/4 inch wide. Do you think they are too old to get an ID on?

They go black because they are inky caps, and that is the way the release their spores.
