a better hypothetical question
    #4326967 - 06/23/05 01:25 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

So what would happen if I refuse to recognize the government of the United States while living within its borders? In other words, I'm no longer a citizen, but I don't renounce my citizenship because I would no longer recognize the body of government that granted the citizenship. (The act of renouncing my citizenship would show that I still recognize the government.)

If I'm ever arrested, how do I go about telling police that I'm not an American, that I'm not a citizen of any nation? The interesting part is, the government would still have me on file as a citizen and thus I would still be charged with the crime...

Hmmmm

I'm pretty sure the U.S. government would ignore your statement and treat you as a normal citizen.

That's true, but I don't think you're thinking of this in the right way.

The guy didn't announce that he wasn't part of it because there's no one to announce it to, and if you don't even announce it, how exactly would you benefit? Once you got in trouble you could claim you don't recognize the U.S., but they'd just laugh at you.

Have you tried this yourself, or has anyone actually been successful? Do you have any links or evidence to this being applied in real life?
