No DB in Canada, back to the drawing board.

I decided to order some DB compost, maybe even a kit. So I proceed to the order form, and what do I see? No foreign orders. Well, being an inexperienced grower with still relatively large goals (no poormans terrarium for me) what should I do? Honestly, I don't want to go through A LOT of trouble to make substrates etc. I don't have a pressure cooker, and I'm not buying one. I would rather order a substrate, or if possible, concoct one from easily attainable substances. I want to grow in a rubbermaid tub or something similar. Basically, I want to make a bulk kit, my main concern being SUBSTRATE.
I've posted some questions before, but they've all lead up to this. I've decided how I want to grow, what I want to grow, but now I need something that will actually grow it.
Thanks.

It's a shitty job but this might help try making your own compost.
If this is an option let me know I will give you an easy fool proof method

Alright, lay it on me. I also saw some posts you wrote about a compost kit. Did that "bear fruit"? If I can't/won't make this compost, do you sell it/ship it to Canada?

Use worm castings Ulysees. They can be bought at local nurseries. Many growers have had great sucess with castings. They can be pasteurized in the oven. I don't know if you consider the PF method too complex. But you can innoculate some jars.Once they are ready, use them to spawn some worm poo. The jars do not have to be sterilized in a pressure cooker. They can be boiled. You can use a rubbermaid container to mix it and use that as your growing chamber.

There is plenty of cow shit in Canada, you don't have to have it imported.

Ya, and if you live close or driving distanace from a zoo like the Toronto zoo, you can buy elephant shit from them at good prices.. It's been a while since i've bought from them, but I think they still carry it.

I'm a beginner guys, sure I can get loads of shit, but how do I pasturize it? Plus, I'm trying to cut down on the variables for failure...

Actually, I just contacted the Toronto Zoo, and apparently, they do not sell elephant poo anymore because the company that composted and bagged the elephant crap wasn't making any money out of it.. But they are thinking of holding one or two elephant doodie sales per year.
That is all from the elephant poo world of toronto.

H aha haha, is the elephant crap worth it? I would have to buy from Edmonton or Calgary zoo's but I wouldn't be doing this just yet anyhow.

You can do it.Pasteurizing is easy. Just take what ever your substrate is, add water, and stick it in the oven for 2hrs at 160-200. I gave you the 160-200 range because there's many different thoughts on this. The fact is that it works at 160 and it works at 200. I keep mine around 170-175 at the highest. You can put the compost or cow poop in an turkey pan or on anything it will fit in really.Just because you buy a pre-sterilized kit ,it doesn't really mean that you won't have problems. Have you grown mushies before? Because crumbling and casing cakes works well also.

I hear the zoo doo(not the name brand ZOODOO, but that would work too.It can be bought online BTW) is worth it. But here in the Seattle, even Tacoma areas- the zoos now have a lottery twice a year for their poo. I Believe it's free, but only a certain number of ppl get their names picked. SO get your shovel and load up the truck bed!!! WOO HOO!!

Ahhh... Loading up the shit. I'm actually no stranger to this, donkey shit, horse shit, cow shit, sheep shit, you name it! Now that you all think I'm a redneck hillbilly... I think I'll try this sometime, but I'll probably wait awhile. How fresh should it be at time of pasteurization? Oh, what a hobby!

You should see me in the middle of January. If I can make it an Elephant should be able to make it. My feces isn't that valuable though.
