cakewalk sonar 4 producer edition

i posted this in art but im getting no replies, and i need to get a project done!
ok i have cakewalk 4 producer version, and was wondering;
its telling me i have no midi input device and wont be able to hear anything? I haven't really worked with midi programs b4, how do I fix this? can I download one for it? I downloaded some weird vst plugin but it didn't work, and one didnt come with it. Does anyone know a link for it?

You open the options and select you soundcards midi device as the default....in cakewalk one must do this....why it is not automatic???!!!

i go to options, then midi devices,and theres nothing under input and i cant pick anything, theres no option to.

What soundcard do you have in your machine?

Realtek AC'97 Audio, I think, its whatever came with the computer.

I had some problems with the same sound card. I ended up doing some stuff, and then it just worked, anyways, I was way out there in windows' land enabling things, and testing parameters, and I really can't tell you where I went, but I hope I set you off in the right direction.
