My uncle is comming by to sow me up.

One reason I don't mind paying higher taxes for public health care... :smirk:

Good to know you aren't dying or anything, though!

Like a splinter in your mind...
Driving you mad.

If you were at the emergency room, why didn't they sew you up there?

If they sewed him up at the ER, how would his uncle be able to sow seeds in the gash?

Actually that statement is untrue, we have numerous hospitals in our country and the majority are REQUIRED to treat regardless of wether you can pay them or not. Dont talk out your ass.

but only to a point of stabilization, right? like if you come with a huge gash in your leg, they have to stop you from bleeding to death right there, but they don't have to help you out with any medicines to stop infection, physicial therapy, checkups to remove the sutures, etc...

Not necessarily, most of these hospitals have their own pharmacies which are required to give you the anti-biotics and such regardless of whether you can give them money or not. Also they will do follow up work as well. Remember these are public hospitals, there are private ones that don't have to see you if they don't want too. All sorts of long term treatments are done on cancer, emphysema, seizure. You may not get to do all the most wonderful treatments thats are available, but you will bve seen and treated to the best of their ability.

Also ive hear that socialistic medicine has its draw backs as well. I really have not seen any system that is flawless. So it kind of irritates me when people rips on ours.

Exactly, depending on where you are in the U.S. you may have to wait. But usually you will be seen sooner that 3 hours. They also do treat by order of severity in an emergency clinic.

No you dont get a bill, but you do pay for it.

interestingly enough - we have socialised medicine in denmark (funded by a progressive tax system), but we actually only pay 51% of what the US pays, per capita. my guess is that number comes from a very few people in the US paying a very huge sum for some very specialized medical treatment (or the higher number of 'cosmetic' surgeries done in the us?), skewing the average. but still, an interesting fact to ponder...

I've been denied medical treatment in Florida at an ER with a medical emergency because I didn't have insurance or enough cash on me. Last time I'll go to the hospital.
