The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. ~ Albert Einstein

I'd love for them to get back together, just so I could get another chance to see them live.

I think he's planned this all along. He's always 32 steps ahead of us...

actually, I recall around the pumpkins breakup, corgan was interviewed by the local media here in chicago and he completely ruled out any sort of reunion in the future. he said it would never happen and he thought such reunions were tacky - I remember him saying something like "the last smashing pumpkins show ever will be at the metro in 2 weeks. count on it."

Corgan was notorious for his megalomania. Writing all the songs, playing his bandmates' parts on record and constantly controlling what his bandmates did. It always seemed he wanted a solo career. Now he's got one and he wants to reform his old band (in typical Corgan fashion, he apparently expects James and Darcy and Jimmy to simply fall back in line). Does he miss bossing people around? I don't get it.

Yeah, I read that post of his.. wow. The guy thinks he's something special alright. I don't blame him, he's a brilliant musician and he knows it. The problem is that he's let all that go to his head, conceiving of himself as some kind of representative of Chicago and of musical history. The post shows that he anticipates no problems recruiting James, Darcy and Jimmy after having abandoned them over the ill-success of Machina and how little attention Machina II received when it was released exclusively on some dozen vinyl copies or whatever it was.

Reforming The Smashing Pumpkins will be just another one of Billy Corgan's tacky, unsuccessful misadventures. He hit his climax with Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and he's been chasing that spotlight ever since. I pity the guy, I really do.

I agree.  The guy has talent for sure though.  and like said above, they(*ahem* i mean Corgan) hit the peak of the spotlight with Melon Collie.  Infact, in my opinion, that cd was the beginning of their(damnit, I mean Billy's!) downfall.  But I would love to see the pumpkins prove us wrong, ped.

Jimmy and James will get back into it without a doubt. Darc'y, that's another story, there's almost no chance with her. She's doing other things now, that don't include music. The lineup is not so important, as long as it's Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin, it's the Pumpkins, because that's where 99% of the writing came from. The other two where more or less tools for live shows. James made some nice contributions here and there, and his style of guitar on stage is, in my opinion, pretty necessary for the pumpkins, but as long as it's billy and jimmy the lineup will not be a big issue.

I won't say anything more than that on the subject, "if you can't say anything nice...."
