Pins or no pins?

My friend put his fully colonized cakes in his terranium about a week ago and no shrooms are forming. He noticed little white things that stick out every once and a while but they dont do anything, they either go away or just sit there. Can anyone give me advice?

Well, they're not pins. Pins will first appear with little brown caps. Time to wait.
