Help...with IDing.
    #4322865 - 06/22/05 12:56 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

My shrooms.
Some weird chars. that might give it away. (i dunno the species)
These mushrooms sprout as the sun begins to set and the caps turn black shortly after dark. By sun up the shrivel and die causing more and more. I have a patch.

They grow about 2 inches tall.
1/2 inch wide caps at the largest.
Stems are white and thickest is about 3-4mm they are white but don't bruise.
Gills grow parallel with the stem.
Spore print is black.
They are growing in moist cowshit in clusters or in singles.

I hope this is enough...I'll get a picture when I can. Just to be sure. Also I KNOW they aren't toxic.

how do you know that?

My statistical assumption is that chemical tapering should begin when the rate of visiting ODD exceeds the rate of visiting Pub, or any other Shroomery forum.

awsome, i was just going to ask anyone if they knew what they were, i was at work today and stumbled upon a patch of literally hundreds and hundreds of them, i even shoveled a big clod of dirt with a nice clump of them growing into a bucket and transplanted it into the lot next to my house, i dont think anyone answered whether or not theyre active, and how much should be consumed? i have some pics but im new to this site, how do i post a picture in the post??

damnit..... are you positive?? because those couple nasty caps you see by my finger, when i pulled them they were fresh and alive and fully panned out, maybe slightly curved downward, with a bright orange spot in the middle flowing into a nice yellow and finally to a white on the edges..... when i saw them in the ground they looked nothing like the picture before mine, it looked almost like a p. mexicana, is it a chance that those couple shrooms are a different than all the other hundreds around them??? and also those pics of the inky caps i saw had very little orange on them.... these are almost entirely red when theyre starting to poke out of the ground and slowly turning to orange and then white on the tips as they mature...?

Im no expert, but I've read tons and tons of info on mushrooms over the course of the past year and there is no mushrooms that Ive come across that are active in your part of the continent that look like you describe. Furthermore, it has been stated over and over again to NOT EAT mushrooms until they are properly idintified by people on this site other than me(ie. gumbo, shroomy dan, MJ)

I've seen something like that before... and by before I mean a million times. People post them all the time on these boards thinking they're active. They're not.

They're Coprinus micaceus (aka Inky Caps). Not active, not edible.
