Temperature at inocculation
    #4322794 - 06/22/05 12:37 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I inocculated 8 jars with 10ccs of solution 5 nights ago and I still haven't seen any signs of growth. I inocculated them when the jars were still a little warm though. Could this have a major effect or should I just be patient and wait.

If they were still a little warm on the outside, they may have been a little HOT on the inside. How long did you wait ?
May have killed the spores.

yeah it could have an effect depending on how warm they were when you innoc'd. 5 days is not long enough to tell yet though. give them some time, patience. room temp is best for inoculation. wish you the best.
peace

They were warm because I got them in the mail and I live in the middle of the damn desert. I estimate they were at 90 degrees.

If it did kill the spores, would the cakes still be reusable?

Hard to tell.

It may screw up your water content.

Best just to start over to be safe.

That's a good question. Since the spores were suspended in sterile water and they were killed by the heat, which 90 degrees probably didn't do, you would think you could. If you only inoculated with 1 CC per jar, that might not be enough water to make them unusable. If your position in the desert makes jars a commodity, leave them be for a week in a clean place covered with foil. If they're still clean and uncontaminated you can probably use them.

Give it a few more day's. Sometimes it can take spores a little bit to get going.
Good Luck.

Yep, I agree with HippieChick.  Let them be for a while.  Who knows, it might just be taking them a while to wake up.

BUT, if nothing happens for a while, then I would scrap the cake and start all over.  Don't reuse the cakes with some new spores in otherwords, if that is what you were asking.

Mych starts to die at around 104F... Spores can withstand even greater heat, so as far as that goes you should be ok.  On your first try do not expect growth within the first 5 days. You have much to learn and some fine tuning to do based on where you live as compared to where the person giving you advice lives. On my first grow I did not see mych until about 3 weeks... and that was after 2 weeks of me trying to just "let it grow" and then someone here told me to try an incubator... that was the key for me. Learn about the temps... get a thermometer, and regulate your grow area. After you introduce spores you want total darkness and a temp of 82-84F for optimal growth. There are to many factors to consider... You need to read, learn, and experiment... Then you will be successful.

However, everyone here is always ready to lend you some good advice
