Dense strains
    #4321280 - 06/21/05 03:29 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Ive been collecting info on the densest strains:

F+
Texans
PE
KSSS

In reguards to KSSS, ralphsters lists them as being hollow, but others have stated that they are dense. What are your experiences with that?

Ralphsters also listed PESA as being dense, though ive never heard anyone mention this.

If you've had experience with a particularly dense strain, feel free to add (or take away) to the list.

The density in most cases doesn't depend on the strain but the growing conditions and substrate.

Unless of course you are talking about Penis Envy, the weirdo miracle strain that always has nice fat dense stems.

ps. cyan. has a solid stipe. J/K

All cubensis mushrooms will have a hollow area in the stem.
the larger the mushroom, the more noticeable it is that's all.
just think of it as an esophagus.

if you want more meat on the rooms, feed them better.

The KSSS is one the most dense strains of cubensis, along with PE and Tex. Tex and KSSS are very similar in density. PE is the most dense.

the Taz i've seen, look similar to Eq & Pesh, but tasted better.
But, they ALL (including PE) loose 80/90% of their weight when dried.

Read this little pdf puppy (long).

https://dspace.lib.cranfield.ac.uk/retrieve/1636/thesis+Molloy.pdf

It is on line (impart)with the Q.

IMHO, dense stems are related more to optimal nutriants, moisture content, incubation of the substrate, casing & fruiting conditions, than strain.

Almost everyone here is in a rush for fruitbodies :mushroom2: :mushroom2:.
They push the envelope - to exposure cased substrates to pinning conditions - rapidly - ASAP.

Most often, if I over-incubate an optimal substrate (several days past what appears to be 100% colonization), then take extra time, to insure myc is well situated in the casing layer, then expose to pinning conditions, with slightly lower tempuratures than normal - along with good moisture suplly - as pins begin to extend - I get thicker - more solid stems, no matter the P.C. strain.

I grew KSSS on cased BRF and they where all hollow, I spawned said BRF casing to H-poo, and now they aren't the least bit hollow!

ah, i knew it had something to do with the growing conditions. Id grow PE's if i didnt have such a high chance of losing the whole strain to lack of spores.

as a side note, ralphster recommended these strains for their density:

Equadorians
B+
Austrailian
South american

ive heard bad stuff about B+, so i dont think ill be growing that anytime soon, but the austrailians sound pretty cool.
