Question (no pics sorry)
    #4322498 - 06/21/05 11:14 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Near where i live in florida theres a field full of white mushrooms, they sort of look like an Amanita, but they also sort of look like Psilocybe cubensis. I havnt eaten them thinking they might be pousinus. My question is, if i let them dry, and they turn blue, does that mean by default that they are good, and active! :mushroom2:

Stop! be very careful with those! If they are white and look like amanitas, then you may have stumbled upon the deadly Amanita virosa/verna species complex.  It seems that you need a better field guide as Amanita and Psilocybe do not resemble eachother.  Also blue staining is not a dead giveaway to any kind psychedelic activity, some poisonous mushrooms also stain blue.  This can only be answered with the following information:

A. Habitat (where [state/province/country] and what does it grow on)
B. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc)
C. Measurements of cap and stem.
D. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)
E. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)
F. Spore print color (very important!)
G. Color that the mushroom bruises
H. Scent of mushroom

Picture Pictur Picture!!

You'll get alot more help with that information, it is vital to prevent you from dying.  Glad you asked first though!

yes indeed the do look like chloropyllum molybdites, but the ones i found werent fully grown. here is the info i got

Cap: 1inch diameter
Stem: 1 1/2 long
Color: White, sortof brownish
Scent: Cant really smell them much, but they smell like dirt
Guills: They are white, but then again they arent fully grown.
Location: Sanford, Florida, the grow next to a tree, and rigth next to then is a dead tree.

for now i am just going to trow them away, i really dont think they are active, and sorry i dont have a digital camera!

If they're too young they might not drop spores.

Does the cap have any kind of scales or flecks on it? Does it bruise any color when broken or pinched?

the cap itself dosnt have any scals or felcks, but the steam has a lil "skirt" on it, and the cap bruises brownish/kakhi like when pinch
