Spawning a casing to poo...
    #4318371 - 06/20/05 07:32 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

I have a casing (wbs) that is not what I hoped it would be. It's been in the fruiting cycle for 14 days now.
Can I dump it in a container of poo? Will it colonize?

I did the same thing with some post 3rd flush WGBR cakes, and they took off in poo very quickly. So, assuming your poo is at the right moisture content and you break up the casing into uniform pieces for spawning, I don't see any reason it won't work. Of course, fresh spawn is always preferred to used.

Yeah, your thread is the one that got me thinking.
Thanks. I will crumble it in

Just keep in mind what works for one, may not work for another. Even though it was post 3rd flush, my WGBR cakes at the time might have been a much healthier isolate than what you are working with, and that could be a lot to do with why it worked. Not saying that's the case, just making an example of why it may or may not work.

I was thinking, if my chances were really slim, I'd do an extraction.
But, it's worth the chance.
I'm not set up for bulk yet, but the :poop: is piling up

Thanks  :sun:

It worked for me.. I had a 1" BRF casing in a bread pan, I broke it up, and added 1" of poo, and it colonized in like 3 or 4 days.. It's fruiting as we speak. Technically this is the 4th flush off this mycelium, and it's the biggest one yet.
Again I will re-iterate what Diver said, just cuz it worked for me, doesn't mean it will work for you, but if you try it I would spawn it so it's 50% WBS and 50% poo.. That seems to be very easily colonized.
