if you're working with leaves you don't want to skip defat.

Nop it's not similar to mesc extraction.

Mesc extraction ends in a polar solvent where fats are insoluble in (i.e acid water).

Spice extraction ends in non-polar so defat should never be skipped. Otherwise your final purity will be compromised.
Especially - like FH said - when working with leaves, which are filled with oils and chlorophyl - both generally very soluble in NP solvents.

Do not skip defat. I'd recommend using a powerful NPS for the first two defat passes (toluene, xylene, etc - any aromatic should do) and than a third pass with naphta or whatever solvent you plan to use afterwards to extract the DMT (use one with a relatively low b.p. if you want crystal).

I don't know about acacia, but using MH rootbark you skip defat when using the Marsofold tek as posted at dmtworld.org. But as people said, the fact that you're using leaves may make it necessary.
