BRF substitute

I was wondering, can I instead of using the brown rice you find in big bags use this: http://www.successrice.com/success/product.cfm?prod=10041
I know I know it's minute rice, it will have crap potency. But this one says it has no preserves and that it is whole grain brown rice. I get alot of mixed answers in the irc. Some say that it will work fine because it is infact brown rice. Others say that like the guy that did Uncle Bens that it'll probably grow shrooms, just that they won't have any potency in it at all. I'd like some good answers please and not anymore replies like "Why don't you just buy this brand or such and such." Lets just hypothetically say I am living in a bomb shelter with no alternative. Will this work?

Don't use it. No need to waste your time. Get yourself some WildBirdSeed. If you really want to use a verm/flour mix. Maybe try some bulgur wheat flour. Or Quinoa flour. If you can only find them with whole grains... then just grind them up yourself.

Why would you want to waste time and energy with crappy stuff?.. take an hour.. find a health food store and get the right stuff.

Have fun

I know, I've read the log. But this isn't uncle bens and is a different brand and everything. Alot of the time when people said instant rice wouldn't work because they have preservatives in them that mess with the psylocibin. But this brand doesn't have any so I was asking basically if you guys thought it might work differently then his Uncle Ben's attempt.

But if it does work,, Then awesome and wtg.

Good luck

Hrm. This is my first grow. I'm going to go straight word for word with the pf tek but instead substitute in the 10 minute brown rice flour instead of the bag-bought stuff. I'll start a grow log soon enough and do like 3 cakes as soon as I get the opportunity.

Dude. Why are you looking for something that 'might' ... 'possibly' grow something. If your trying to set the record for mushrooms grown on the worst possible substrate.. then clearly proceed.

If you want to actually grow for real. Get some real stuff.

Why else would you not want to buy something that will actually work.. and work well...?

I don't doubt the ability to grow it. Because according to the other thread, it grew fine. And like I said, think hypothetically that I can't get anything else. I probably will end up getting some eventually, I was just wanted input first.

Hmmm.. If this is your first grow. I really think you should try something else first. Everyone says Oh you gotta do the PF first. Honestly, I think it is much harder than doing WBS(Wild bird seed) .. or really just about anything else. If you want something similar.. and you can find bulgur wheat. Follow this tek exactly and your first grow will kick some  :ass:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post4223655

If not.. try the birdseed. You can get it for sure.
Use this tek.

You will have much better success... and much faster.

Have fun

Well, I took the time to read the entire box and up till the very end thought it might work. After all, it was brown rice, just in a bag so you could boil it. Even said you could take it out of the bag and prepare like normal rice. Sounds good so far. Then, at the very end, precooked parboiled brown rice. Knowing a little about boiling foods, I'm wondering how much of the nutritional value of the rice may have been lost ?

Just a ponderence

I read the pf tek, mmgg + a few other guides before I started(when I waas still a kid actually, I always knew I was gonna grow ) anyways before I started I found the shroom wizards tek and I Liked it(its aimed at newbs and similar to pf but instead u go straight into casing and don't even use a fruiting chamber)...it worked out great my first flush was 15gs dry and I'm glad I've never had to use a pointless "dry verm layer"
