commercial cultivators.. where do you get your strains?
    #4315132 - 06/19/05 10:54 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

mostly i have seen just two main culture sellers:

fungi perfecti: $125/culture for a limited use
mushroompeople: $45/culture for unrestricted use

anyone know of some other dealers? $45 doesnt seem bad, but are the cultures quality? has anyone dealt with mushroompeople before? we are looking into getting a commercial portabello culture and perhaps some more shitake ones to try.. does anyone use other companies? thanks

well consider this.

any mushroom you can buy in a big name supermarket, is being grown in enormous quantities.

therefor, the genetics inside these mushrooms are of prime nature.
my advice for you, if you want ot save some cash,
get commercially grown mushrooms and clone them!

this way, you et the same genetics as the master and you save some cash

besides that, fungi perfecti, as you can read, says "for a limited use"
i do not excactly know what that means, but it sure jumps at me when i
relate it to commercial production.

besides that, mushroompreople's price sounds fair but first give the
FREE WEDGE thread a shot, lots of GREAT cultures for free in there.
peace ohm :mushroom2:

I have bought from Lamberts, Mushroom People (I dont think I will go with Mushroom People again ) but I like the people at Field and Forest best of all. They have an awesome catalog too.

Probably an unrivaled source for culture of Agaricus strains would be the Penn State mushroom spawn lab culture collection I think you can cut and paste:

http://mushroomspawn.cas.psu.edu/CultureList.htm

or you can check with the American Type Tissue Collection ATTC.
Both sell cultures for about $145. I didn't see a. brunescens on the list of agaricus from the Penn State lab, but they have 267 a. bisporus as well as many other agaricus commercially tested strains.
Pet Fungus has a good collection of spores and cultures
