Melbourne Eastern Suburbs ID help
    #4314733 - 06/19/05 06:30 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Went out for a first hunt today and found these, just wondering if anyone can confirm them for me?

We found them in Eastern suburbs in Melbourne at a local park.

Growing out of barkchips surrounded by blade grass, they were about 2-3 cm diameter and about 6-10 cm long.

The spore print came up a dark purple colour, and the stems stained a dark blue.

Here's some pics, thanks.

These are definetely purple spores, I didn't think I'd be able to tell a blue bruising or a purple spore print from black or brown, but its a really noticeable colour.

Those look like active Psilocybes to me. I see bluing and purple spores. To be safe you may want to wait for someone from Australia to confirm species.

Thats what I was hoping to hear  I'll certainly wait but I believe they are a mix of Psilocybe australiana and Psilocybe subaeruginosa.

Dude Gyms are bright yellow or orange. Not even close.

Like shroomydan said, some kind of active Psilocybe. As far as species goes, we'd need some australian native to figure it out. Where's bluemeanie when you need him?

Defenitely P. Subaeruginosa. Trademark features that i'd associate with the species. Nice finds by the way.

Well, that's just awesome then. went back and got the rest of them today, don't worry the ones on the sheet nearest the camera aren't going to be eaten, we just wanted to get some spore prints to compare.
