3M Micropore surgical tape = lid filter

This is good stuff. 3M states it should not be steam sterilized. But, it will stick to a metal or plastic lid, through a PC cycle. It comes in differing widths 1/2 inch to 3 inch. This SELLER offers it at a good price & ships quickly.
For the nick-pickers & nay-sayers. Yes, it is paper tape. But, it is microporous (micropore: 7 to 20 Angstrom) So long as it is stuck to a flat surface, it does not come off (without assistance)& dries in a heartbeat - out of a PC.
Sure, when it's over a hole in a lid, the sticky side is exposed to whatever is in the jar. I resolve that by using 1/2 in by 1/2 inch turned upside down & stuck to a 1 inch strip.
I have also used a 1/2 inch paper type punch to make lots of 1/2 inch tyvek circles - then use 1 inch wide 3M micropre tape to hold the tyvek down, over the lid hole. That way, a small amount of tyvek goes a long-long way.
you can also (usualy) find this tape in single rolls - at the local drug store (surgical tape section), under the "NextCare" brand name.

I sure did. I cover a tray with cling wrap, use masking tape to insure the cling wrap stays in place. Then, use a sanitized razor or box cutter blade to cut a slit in the cling wrap surface - about 1/3rd the length of the tray, then fold the cling wrap under (about 1/2 inch wide gap - the length of the slit), then cover the slit with micropore tape. BTW - 2 inch tape width is better for this.
It works wonders for gas exchange & heat dissapation from bulk h/poo substrates.

One box (12 rolls 1 inch X 30 feet per roll) has 360 feet of tape.
That would make 4,320 one inch square patches.
LOL, you do the math. $14 for 4,320 patches.
If that is not cheap, I don't know what is.

I double checked the link & I made a tiny BOOBOO.
That link in for 2 inch wide micropore tape & 6 rolls.
It works out the same space as 1 inch, but is a pita to cut.
Here is the link for the 1 inch wide tape (12 rolls - 30 ft each = 1 box).

You could also just stick more on the inside too. I am sick of my autoclave bags getting little holes in them, the a/c bags also seem to have poor gas exchange due to the very fine filter.
so I am now making reusable microwave containers. I cut a 3/4" square from the lid with a hot knife. Then I silicon a 1.5" square of synthetic filter to the hole on the outside and inside. This also gives a nice barrier to stop things growing through the filter since it now has a 3mm gap between the 2 filters. I have an injectable self healing hole on the container too. I will run sellotape around the edge of the container after heating.

Been using micro pore tape for years now, works great!
I just buy single rolls of the stuff, its dirt cheap and just about any pharmacy sells it.

It is good stuff.
I developed an adhesive filter patch that is far better. Problem is, to manufacture them in mass requires some real expensive machinery.
I was going to mass produce them. But, after finding out what the machinery cost was, then looking at the rate of return. The numbers stated the facts very loudly. That being, it would not be a worthwhile investment, at least for me.
