eastern kentucky psilocybes
    #4314359 - 06/19/05 06:54 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Hey all, my first post!  I am really eager to find some wild psilocybes.  I was reading the faqs and it says that the only species of psilocybes in the state are Caerulipes.  but I know many a people here that have found the goodies in cow dung.  must be cubes, right?

I went hunting for the first time the other night.  Looked through many cow pies, and the only mushroom I found the whole night was growing in the dirt, a puffball.  All I can figure is that it is too early in the season, and the mycelium has yet to mature.  So im gonna try another pasture.  Any ideas?

Also, about these caerulipes.  Are there certain times I should be looking for these?  After a good rain?  In the morning?  I havent found much information on them.

thanks guys.

The only active dung growing mushroom you'll find that far north is Panaeolus subbalteatus. You're way too far north for Cubensis.

Just because its not documented, does not mean cubes couldnt grow here. In fact I believe they could very well thrive in these hills. Did you know that eastern kentucky has the second most bio diversity on the planet?

They grow in tennessee, why not Kentucky?

The way people(s) decribed the mushrooms they found to me, it sounds like cubes.

Because Kentucky is at least 60 miles north of where they grow in TN. They grow in the western portion of TN, where there are no mountains and the climate is dramatically different from that of eastern TN. Search all you want, just don't make posts complaining about not finding any Cubensis in Kentucky  :smirk:

Wow, what a warm wecloming. Dont worry though, I aint gonna be whining. Ill find 'em.

How do the mountains affect the mushroom? If that is the case, then why do they not grow in western kentucky, where there are no mountains?
