Raising the retirement age?
    #4313534 - 06/19/05 01:05 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

to 69? I'm far from retirement, but at this rate I'd have to be older than the average life expectancy to retire.
The "Greatest generation" is bullshit, they will destroy us.
So what country should I go retire in, because it sure as The Shroomery won't be here.

I've heard the demographic bubble in Europe is even worse than in America. Hopefully with the exploding Hispanic population, the demographics in America will shift slightly younger.

I've heard that some South American countries are cheap and reasonably stable.

Just invest and save up money, and then you can retire when you damn well feel like it.

Chile is a stable nation with good economic fundamentals. They have had decades of progress and their economy is a model for developing nations.

They also have coastline gallore framed in by majestic moutains, so you have real estate that is similar is some respects to California.

With social security insolvent they are going to have to cut benefits and raise taxes on all of us. It is inevitable. Hiking the retirement age is cutting benefits. It really screws minorities who don't live as long. Kind of wierd that social security is a mechanism that transfers wealth from poor black people to healthy middle class white people.

Our generation shouldn't have to pay for the Baby Boomers, while we would have to wait longer to retire(i.r.l.t. S.S.).
Chile is a possibility, but not likely(much to arid).
If the "Greatest Generation"(and the Baby Boomers) were so great they would have planned for this/saw it coming.
