Myco bags, information
    #4313422 - 06/19/05 12:02 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Well I have looking around in search, and I really have not found any thing that is useful to me. I amm using Myco bags and there is some things I want to know if some one would be so kind as to help me out.
I would like to know what would be an Ideal place for the bags?
I would also like to know if I should put tape on the injection site?
If any one know this it would be great. Do I cut holes in it once every thing is white? should I case it or let it grow in the bag? I would like to case it, I know you can get much more done this way, so if any one can teach me the tek for casing the bag.Is there a tek already? If so I cant find it.Any way I would be more then happy to put up a grow log if some help was given.

Place your mycobag in a warm(80-84) & dark area. Once it's 100% colonized(all white) open it up and case. Casing teks...

Yeah man, the boards take a little bit of getting used to. It's not exactly like talking to somebody in real time.
To answer your q with a q, what is your substrate?
Rye myco bags worked good for me. Casable stuff, ya know? I don't know how the other grains handle.
I like to put a small piece of tape over the injection site, but it's really not necessary. Put back in the box, or incubation chamber, with a thermometer.
Dark, 82-85 F is target for somewhere around 4 weeks, probly more.
When colonized, I cut out of bag and cased in verm, fruiting chamber for 2 weeks, BAM :mushroom2:

Do a search in GL&P for myco bag

I don't mean to bark out at you (ok I do) but christ people, if you have no patience to wait mere MINUTES then get off the forums because you DEF dont have the patience to grow mushrooms.

an incubator is the ideal place, the still colonize pretty fast at room temps,
just make sure it's dark, as for tape, absolutely, if you dont place tape over
the injection site it will draw in air from the outside each time you pick it up

no, wait until the fruits are fully formed if you decide not to case immediately
I sent you a PM, if you have any more questions feel free to ask here

if I didn't put tape on them should I worry? Oh and Id4rox, 9 minutes can seem a lot longer when you really want to know some thing, BUT you are right, AND, IF, and only IF, you want......I will send you one dollar to. OK?

friends again?

dont worry unless you see unusual little white spots forming in lots of places, it's the start of green mold, a couple that spread slowly is healthy

should I tape the bag now? How do I tell if every thing is ok? Did you mean a couple little white spots spread is healthy?

yes, tape it up already

if the white spots start as dozens of small ones and quickly spread, thats bad, just be patient and see how it develops

LOL.....this is a hobby that demands a certain amount of patience in sometimes large quantities.  9 minutes is a millisecond in the fungi world...LOL.  Wait, that has a dual meaning doesn't it?  Those time freezes while....awww...never mind.

There is special horse poo you can find online which is best for mushrooms. www.tennstud.com You could also go to a horsefarm and get it yourself but then you have to deal with the whole pastuerazation process which is a total pain in the ass.

When your rye bags are completely done colonizing, you are gonna take the grain out of the bag and put it all in a bowl. Break it up into nice sized chunks. Get a container and sprinkle a layer of horse poo and then a sprinkle some spawn on top. Then some more horse poo and more spawn. Basically you want a good mix so it evenly colonizes. You place the whole bucket into the incubator and wait for the whole thing to colonize white. Then you are gonna whip up your favorite casing and place a small layer ontop and then put it into the fruiting chamber.

Rather then nice sized chunks, you want to get it as small as possible. Most use cheese graters to break up thier spawn. And again you might want to add a top layer to the h poo, it is said to increase the speed of myc. growth, and keep out some contams.
