yep...they look like colonized brf/verm cakes to me.
now look and see if they are fully colonized all the way around the whole cake.
wait a couple days after they are fully colonized...before dunking and rolling them...or casing them...or using them as spawn. so that you make sure that the middle is fully colonized.
good luck with your grow!~

they appear to be although some parts are a stronger white than others ...i am not casing or anything just going gonna do them like this.....i have never done before
also people have said to dunk once i birth them others have said wait till after the first flush. If i was to dunk should it be in the frig? I read on here it could delay pinning? Or it that expected and ok?

I like to dunk cakes at birth...you will get a larger 1st flush if you do. and I keep mine in the frig while they are being dunked.
I don't get any delays in fruiting from cold shocking cakes...while dunking.
what strain are you working with?

I open the jar and take out the cake and remove the dry verm barrier... then put some water in the jar and put the cake back in the jar... and put the lid back on. then into the frig for 12 to 24 hours.
you could put them in a ziplock bag or another container if you prefer...rather than back into the jars.
good luck with your grow!~

I did the same on my cakes, only I didn't remove the cake. I Just remove VERM layer from the top, then fill with water until the cake starts floating to avoid having to come into any extra contact with my cakes.
Good Luck withit Billy

Sorry for the newb question but would it be beneficial to do the same (dunk/cold shock) if you were planin on casing the BRF cakes? Or because you want the substrate to colonize the top casing layer which is already fairly moist no point in dunking..

definitely dunk at birth...you'll notice a huge difference in weight when you birth it apposed to after its dunked...it only takes 12-24 hours and u can do it right in the jars...remember mushrooms are mostly made of water so give em as much as u can without drowning the mycelium(you won't have to worry about this with cakes)
