I was cutting the lawn today, but I stopped dead in my tracks the minute I saw a few shrooms in front of me. I picked them, and, while I've tripped before I've never actually picked my own and need help with some identyfying. I live in Michigan if it'll help determine what species it is better...
I'll try to describe them as good as possible (I can't take pictures, sorry)
The three I picked seem to be of 3 different sizes:
The smallest one is about an inch tall measuring from the bottom of the stem to the top of the cap. The cap itself is rounded (infact holding it from the side it almost looks like a circle cut in half perfectly), however the other two larger ones that I picked that look to be the same species have an almost flat top (obviously they're more mature). The color of the cap is a pale white, the measure of the cap across is about 3/4 of an inch, the gills are very close together and are a very light brown or cinnamon colored brown. The stem is almost the same shade of white as the cap and it isn't hollow.
The medium sized one has a VERY slighty rounded cap that's pale white, almost light yellow. The measure of the cap across is about an inch. As with the smaller shroom I picked, the gills are very close together and are a cinnamon brown color. The stem is about the same as the smaller one, only taller. This shroom is about an inch and a half tall.
The largest one I picked has a cap that's almost completely flat. It's about an inch across and has a yellowish or VERY light brown color. The gills are very close together and are brown (a noticably darker shade of brown then the other two shrooms). The stem is white towards the top, but the further down you go, ther browner it gets. It's about 1 3/4 inch tall measuring from the bottom of the stem to the top of the cap.
Sorry if that was long, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible. So are these edible, or was this all a big waste of time?
EDIT* I probably should've also mentioned that the caps feel rubbery, smooth, and dry to the touch.

Hi StonedAgain. Welcome to the shroomery.
Here are the criteria required to make an ID. We especially need the spore print color.
Quote:
It is critical that you describe mushrooms fully and accurately in order to get a proper identification.
A good picture of the mushrooms is invaluable.
Along with the pictures (if possible), please include the following:
a. Habitat (where [state/province/country] and what does it grow on) b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc) c. Measurements of cap and stem. d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc) e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc) f. Spore print color (very important!) g. Color that the mushroom bruises h. Scent of mushroom
For more detailed guidelines for describing your finds, please view this document.
For an explanation of mycological terms please refer to this document .

The spore print is dark colored, almost black, but closer to a very dark brown

Nothing active. Probably a Panaeolina foenisecii, or maybe an Agrocybe.
