Dedication to the U.S. army
    #4311745 - 06/18/05 07:16 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

My good friend went to the air force about a year back and has recently staid with my family at our house, I can call him a brother. He's an important part of our family and we'd hate to lose him. After his two weeks were up for leave, he left today. He has a drive all the way to Oklahoma from Pennsylvania.
When he get's back he is going to be shipped over to abu dhabi.

I always took the military and the people in it for granted. They are brave people who fight for our country even if it's not necessary to fight.
It saddens me to think that the only reason he left is so he can change his life around. He's seriously a genius if not he's close to it. I can't say that his decision was smart to join, but I support him for it.

Lets dedicate this thread to all of the men and women who sacraficed their lives for our own good.

and please, if you don't support the U.S. military don't flame or put your oppinions in here about how much you dislike America.

Thanks for everyone here at the shroomery to make this place what it is.

Take this time to put your self in their shoes and visualize the scene of battle around you and how you'd react.

My opinion is that people who fight in the army claim to protect our peace but really make more enemies for us. But overall, warlike people fight warlike people and peaceful people find their peace, everyone is happy. I just have real issues with anyone in the military, anyone who can justify peace with the use of violence.

Of course the military reaction would be that I'm naieve and the country needs protection. My point would be how would we know? As far as I can tell no one has ever tried peace, they have just agreed to stop fighting.

Definitely! No matter what you think of the war or bush and all that bullshit, you have to appreciate what these people go through. I know I could never fight in a war!

A big mistake made by all the free-love hippies of the 60's and 70's is that when soldiers came back from vietnam they treated them like crap, like they were inhuman monsters, when in fact many of them were victims of the draft. They apparently left out soldiers in their vision of universal love.

Are you blaming the kids that join the army and keep you're dumb ass safe?

War is young people dieing and old people talking. Blame the Republicans, not the military.

I would much rather have peace than anything.
I don't blame the people in the military for fighting though.
I really don't know who to blame. I mean, our country or other countries? The point is that there is no one to blame. It just happens. We have a lot of enemies, yes, but, it's not the peoples faults that join.

Blame the people fighting. You only make it to war if you want to be there. You can say those people were drafted, but they still had to convince themselves it was right and make it to the sign in. Even if someone was in the army and believed they were making peace, they should drop out because of what it stands for, the army stands for war.

Army stands for peace making in my oppinion. There's no such thing as making peace with a hand shake. You may try and everything thing will be fine, for a little while. Then when all hell breaks lose because some suicide bomber hits something because they think it's right, the army WILL have to take over.
You think people go to war for the thrill? Maybe some but not all.
People go to the army because they feel it's right. No matter if it's fighting or for trying to keep peace.
Do you think people want to go to die? No. and that's that

"It wasn't me", says the boy with the gun
"Sure I pulled the trigger but it needed to be done
Cause life's been killing me ever since it begun
You cant blame me cause I'm too young"

"You can't blame me sure the killer was my son
But I didn't teach him to pull the trigger of the gun
It's the killer on this TV screen
You cant blame me its those images he's seen"

Well "You can't blame me", says the media man
Well "I wasn't the one who came up with the plan
I just point my camera at what the people want to see
Man it's a two way mirror and you cant blame me"

"You can't blame me", says the singer of the song
Or the maker of the movie which he based his life on
"It's only entertainment and as anyone can see
The smoke machines and makeup
Hey you cant fool me"

It was you it was me it was every man
We've all got the blood on our hands
We only receive what we demand
And if we want hell then hells what we'll have

Then people are fucking stupid. You're right, they do join because they think it's right, or because they need money for an education. Educations don't count with me when you have to gun down people to earn them, that kind of defeats the purpose of learning anything.

People are so brainwashed by the advertisements and people in the army into thinking it is some noble thing, when really, it's not.

To be sure, life in the military sucks, and I'm sure there's a lot of people who have regretted joining. But don't hate those in the military - blame those who make such messed-up policies that call for military intervention.....

"He's five foot-two, and he's six feet-four,
He fights with missiles and with spears.
He's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen,
Been a soldier for a thousand years.

He'a a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain,
A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew.
And he knows he shouldn't kill,
And he knows he always will,
Kill you for me my friend and me for you.

And he's fighting for Canada,
He's fighting for France,
He's fighting for the USA,
And he's fighting for the Russians,
And he's fighting for Japan,
And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way.

And he's fighting for Democracy,
He's fighting for the Reds,
He says it's for the peace of all.
He's the one who must decide,
Who's to live and who's to die,
And he never sees the writing on the wall.

But without him,
How would Hitler have condemned him at Labau?
Without him Caesar would have stood alone,
He's the one who gives his body
As a weapon of the war,
And without him all this killing can't go on.

He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame,
His orders come from far away no more,

They come from here and there and you and me,
And brothers can't you see,
This is not the way we put the end to war."

I don't and I am sure many don't hate those in the military, we just wonder why people involved in it are so dumb. It's like the government offers people the slightest glimpse of opportunity, of a real life, and they jump at it, only to be manipulated and forced to murder. It is a tragedy, but not one that can't be prevented.

The best way to stop the army is by having nothing to do with it, don't fight it, don't listen to it, don't do anything. If it rolls over you, it will, but you didn't join it. That matters.

You obviously have no idea how much a college education matters in today's world. Some people have the choice between working in a factory for their entire life and living paycheck to paycheck or going to war for a few years, getting an education paid for, and having an opportunity to be able to provide for you family or children.

If I did not have the money for an education, I think I would have joined the reserves.

I don't care if you don't like the war, you don't need to dislike the people fighting.

IMO anyone in America that really tries during highschool can get enough scholarship to pay for collige. At worst they would have to take a student lone and/or work part time. I myself am ungrateful. I didnt try in highschool and got by with a B average because my parents can afford to send me to collige. But getting good grades really doesnt take being smart, it just takes doing and memorizing all the busywork they hand out to you.

I just can't believe that people honestly buy into education first involving exterminating other cultures for the interests of oil, politics, and greed. What good is the army or college going to do someone who just wants to make a decent wage? In today's society, no one has to work in a factory who doesn't want to. Anyone can obtain skills and become attractive to employers. Army isn't about the education, you just think it is along with a lot of others. The education is what they say so that no one has a problem with senseless killing.

Remember that most of those 60's hippies were well off kids that went to college... Then they pissed on anyone that didn't go to college... I've got an almost full ride and I still plan to spending 4 years in marines after my bachelors. I've been planning to since I was a kid and everyone tells me it's stupid and pointless. I just stopped talking about it with people in the real world, but I am still planning on it, fuck them.

I grew up in a hippy town and had a lot of friends that had to join the military so they could get money for college. They wanted a good education, and that was the best way for them to be able to afford it. They were all very much against war. Not everyone in the military is a gung-ho kill machine.

Don't be so ignorant as to lump every person in the military into one group. Yes, there are hillbilly bum-fucks who are only in it to "kill them some sand niggas", but they are definately not the only people there.

I'd say by generalizing a whole group like that, and hating them as a whole for groundless and unsubstantiated reasons makes you just as bad as our assfuck president who got us in this whole mess.
