it's the Tibetan Classic about a great sinner who turns into a great saint. a very good read, that is an inquiry into the nature of consciousness itself. might be hard to find in stores, but its probably on the internet. i suggest you pick it up.

Yeah, but it's quite condensed. I bought it online at Chapters.ca.

It's just arrived in the mail, and so far chapter one has been amazing. The book has a fast pace and is filled with the enthusiastic sparkle of Tibetan literature. I'd never thought an exposition as to how a saint received his name could be so engaging and fascinating.

I love this story that Milarepa had heard of a master - the greatest of the time, and so he went to see him. He sees the master and says, "Master, is there not some small teaching that can hook this sinner and pull him to liberation?" And the master says, "Now Milarepa, I have a teaching called 'The Great Perfection' which if you practice it one morning you become liberated that very morning, and if you practice one evening you become liberated that very evening."

So he teaches it to him. Milarepa practices it nonstop for three days and nights, and then the master comes and Milarepa says, "Master, I have practiced for three entire days and nights, and yet have experienced nothing." The master said, "Hmm, your mind is dedicated but very dense. You must begin with the basics."

This is then how Milarepa starts out on the path of the 9 yanas.
