What would you do in my case?
    #4310649 - 06/18/05 11:18 AM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Litteraly, my case, or my casING...

Okay, I cased some h.poo with a casing mix that was not good, although I didn't know at the time.  The hydrated lime is way to strong and fucked up my myc.  It never colonized well in the inc. and never fruited in my chamber, after 2 weeks or so.

So a few days ago I scraped off my uncolonized casing layer and stuck it back in the fruiting chamber.  Now the myc that WAS showing turned brown and died (I think).

I don't know what to do at this point.  I don't wanna waste this casing; I put a lot of work into it.  Should I flip it over and fruit straight off the horse shit?  What would you do? :frown:

Why should I toss it?  I've put so much time and work into this one, it seems like such a waste.... :frown:

I'd flip the horse poo over.

you can fruit straight off the horse poo without a casing layer...

but you would benifit from using a casing layer.

I used to fruit off horse poo without a casing layer...like in this pic.

the choice is yours.

good luck!~

It's a good thing I didn't trash it.

I flipped it over and there are MANY MANY MANY little pins just underneath the casing layer on the sides that are now facing upside down.

Two thumbs down for telling me to trash it.

well only say that because the lime burnt the shit out of the myc, and i myself wouldn't waste time or energy on a casing that is not going to give its fullest potential.
sorry man, hope that you get a good flush from the bottom side like that. good luck.
peace

If you threw the casing away you'd be throwing away already-spent time and energy.

true. i don't know your situation but for me another casing would already be in its place. i really don't know how well the burnt one would perform, so a new one would take its place. as far as tossing it, i would probably put it outside with other spent cakes and casings and see what happens. i hope it does recover and you get a good flush from it, as i have never had this prob, i have nothing further to add.
good luck

Yes, but think of it as a "sunk cost" sunk costs should be ignored because those costs have already been incurred and you will never get them back. In order to decide what you should do you should use the Cost-benefit principle and measure marginal costs vs marginal benifits.
