Raising Cocoa plants

I've decided I want to try growing a Cocoa plant. I have looked around the web, and I can't find anyone who sells them. Are the legal to own in the US? Are they harder to grow in a temperate climate than other tropical plants? Many of us grow salvia, and cacti, and MJ, and all sorts of other plants that usually grow in much hotter climates, but I've never seen a single post about growing cocoa. Why? Can a cocoa plant be grown in the North East US the same way the other plants are? I don't know a thing about growing cocoa, but I'm willing to learn. Anyone have any advice?

I don?t see a reason why you shouldn?t be alowed to grow a cocoa plant.
I?d buy a bar of chocolate instead though, it?s much less hassle, ;)

Yes, I meant to say coca, I was extremely drunk when I posted this last night. I have no intention of trying to extract any powders, but I might try tasting a leaf or two. Besides, I already have a pretty extensive psychoactive garden, and I just want to add to my collection. Anyone know where to get one of these plants?

I'm 99.99% sure that you cannot buy coca plants in the US. Especially since our campaign in colombia focuses on mass herbacide across the mountains to eliminate the plants. I believe that growing the plants is equivalent (not in sentencing obviosuly) to having the precursers to MDMA in the DEA's mind.

I also heard that coca seeds need to be stored at about 95% humidity or they dry out and die thats why shipping or selling is so hard

It's been years... but I used to have a drug book that talked a little about coca plants. As I recall they take at least three years (kind of like coffie bean plants) to mature enough to be off any use. It would seem to be very impraticle to grow them inside. I would asume thats why you never hear of anyone growing them that way... ' just aint worth the effort.

well I dont havemuch info about th coca plant but I do have 2 friends growing them right now. It is actually a very beautiful, nice house plant. uuuuuummm It seems (in a country that makes plants illegal:() It would be illegal but I am pretty sure they are legall..could be though. me and freinds dont really follow those types of laws:)
anyway if u do grow some u should turn it into cocaine.. from what I understand it is not all that difficult. plus u would have uncut cocaine wich is extremely rare if not impossible to find.
btw- coke is a VERY fun social drug I recomend using it no more then u would something like lsd.. the way I go is if u r using more than 5-10 times a year u r using way to much

I have ABSOLUTLY no interest in processing coke. I want to make that perfectly clear!!! Besides, it would take more coca plants, and more processing skills than I have. All I am really looking for, is an ethnogenic plant that I can add to my trippy garden, and mabey occasionally munch on a leaf or two. In my own personal experience, powdered cocaine is something to stay as far away from as you can. I've watched too many friends go down the toilet due to that shit. I'm starting to wonder if I should have posted this thread here in the first place.

I can see that. I have tried snorting a handfull of times in the years past. Sure it was usefull for a 2 minute lead jamm... However I'm scared to death of the shit based on what my friends all went thru in the 80's and 90's. I have been riped off of big time by so called crack head friends... I have also seen my fair share of friends piss away there careers 'cuz of coke. History has taught us that it's very dangerious. What happened in the 1890's started again in the 1980's. Actually people seem more smart about coke now than they did 15 years ago, thank God!

ya no argument here I really didnt mean you SHOULD process cocaine, just that if u like coke uncut would blow your mind. you actually could get a good enough personall amount from one plant( they can get bigger than u think). So ya coke is fun so fucking fun your heart explodes...yea

The leaves from Peru are decocainized leaves containing very little of the ingredient you're looking for so don't waste your money on peru connections! That's why they can get it through the U.S.
The seeds are viable for about a week or until they dry out and yes they can be grown in the U.S. It's just the U.S. will not openly say it's growable (I made that word up) in the U.S. temps.
Poppies were at one time believed to never be able to grow in the U.S. but luckily people caught on :)

As he said, the seeds are only viable for a week or 2 and need to be kept moist. Erythroxylum coca leaves are illegal in the US (unless decocanized), therefor, a plant with leave would also be illegal. Seeds are legal just impossible to find.
There are no laws that I know of against Erythroxylum novagranatense, coca's close cousin, and the more flavourful variety used for flavoring Coca-Cola.
