Hep c concern
    #4308984 - 06/17/05 08:21 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

I donate plasma at a local center, and the last time I went they called me back into this little room, and told me that I tested positive for Hepatitis C. The nurse walked out, and came back about 5 minutes later with a piece of paper stating that I had tested positive for it, but on a second, more-specific test I came up negative. She said this means it's unlikely that I have it. I have never used needles, only had sex with one girl, whom I know is not a whore, and has been tested, and I have never had a blood transfusion. I'm not sure if I should be worried or not, but it's been worrying the hell out of me. :frown:

Don't be too concerned about it.

Are you going to get another test done?

Yes, you should get another test done, preferably by your regular doctor. It doesn't sound like you have any of the big risk factors for it though....

Yeah, I will get a follow up test, even though my regular doctor doesn't think it is neccessary, as I had consulted them. I think its a shame that when you donate something that is very expensive (plasma), that they skimp on the tests, and only use the expensive ones if you test positive (which as I'm told there are a lot of false positives) :frown:

i had heard from a source, which i've forgotten, that the disease is transfered 95%+ of the time by needles. the chances you've got it are pretty slim, espicially if you've only had one partner

Any tattoos? You can get Hep C from unclean practices.

Also, isn't Hep C the one you can get from shellfish? Or is that B?

Nonetheless, get another test, but I wouldn't sweat it until then. It's always better to be safe than sorry (or worried).

I have 2 tattoos, but both times I saw the person break the needles, and pull out fresh ones. It was a very clean place I had them done at.
