its been raining, found some mushrooms in horse poo!
    #4307996 - 06/17/05 04:53 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hey guys. I live in southern Vermont, half an hour from Mass. Its been raining a lot in the last few weeks and we have horses, and a big pile of horse poop. Today I checked the shady backside of it and there were lots of mushrooms growing. They are under a pine tree and most of the trees around here are pine. They were in horse poop and hey. I didnt stick around or take any to see if they bruised, but I will check later and get back if you guys cant id them without that information.

These mushrooms were about as tall as my shorter fingers, brown, thin stalks, brown gills.

Here is their underside.

Here is a small patch of the same kind of mushrooms as above.

underneath the big one from the patch

a second shot without flash

here is a different kind of mushroom growing closeby, with only 1 other like it nearby. it is bigger than the other ones above, as 4inches or so tall, yellower as well.

these mushrooms were growing closeby aswell and had much larger caps. i think they are the same kind of mushrooms as the first, only older, because their gills looked almost exactly the same. here they are

and one more shot of them

I am doubting these are anything special, they are common around here in Vermont.

the bottom picture looks like pan subbs, at least the 2 big capped ones..wait for more professional opinions before taking any actions...and take a spore print and state the color, it always helps the pros around here

I believe the first 4 are Panaeolus papilonaceus (or one in that complex;ie sphinctrinus/campanulatus)and the one looks like a pan subb as well. its  time to do a spore print. I am no where near knowledgable on this forum, you definately need to sit on it for a while and wait for more info from one of the trusted sources. Pretty pics though. the look like they are from a book.

Take spore prints of the bottom ones and the 3rd to the bottom. Both look like Pan Subbs to me. Which are active. If the spore print comes out completely JET BLACK, then they're pan subbs.
Beautiful pictures.

You definently have some Panaeolus subbalteatus, active.
The brown ones with the dark brown rings around the caps and the reddish-brown stems are quintessential Pan. subbs, picture perfect.
Not all of the shrooms you see that look like that are necessarilly Pan. subbs. Pick those and the ones that resemble them, then be sure to do spore prints of ALL specimens.

The mushrooms in pictures 7 and 9 are subbs. The rest are inactive Panaeolus campanulatus.

Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with its three warm and wild eyes.

On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.

Well ive been hunting for a few years and posted some pictures once, but they were not active.  The last few weeks it has been raining a lot with a lot of heavy storms.  Yesterday I remembered, oh yeah, I have a giant pile of horse poop in my backyard!  So I checked it and didnt see anything.  But then I checked the shady side of the pile, and yay, mushrooms  :ooo:

There are mini subbs growing also, I cant wait til they get bigger

i believe the dosage for subbalteatus is about one ounce fresh, and about 3.5 grams dried.

tho im sure you could eat less than that and still feel euphoria

The prints are jet black, but they are not bruising blue.
Im gonna eat them all tonight I cant wait! I just checked to see if they were bruising and a little black beetle crawled out frome one! gross.

Ive only had mushrooms one time, and damn, they were really great.

Panaeolus subbalteatus generally dont bruise blue, youll be fine.
Happy tripping!

If you only tripped once then it was probably with cubes or copes. Panaeolus subbalteatus is similar but still different, has a unique, euphoric trip. You should DEFINENTLY enjoy.  :shroomer: :zoom:

I find those black beetles in the gills of my subbs all the time.

As far as dosage goes, I would say at least 4 grams dry. I usually dose 6 grams dry for a nice trip. Not the most potent of mushrooms, but they're my favorite as far as the trip goes.
