Amanita brunnescens porn and a toxicity q.
    #4305220 - 06/16/05 07:32 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Dear shroomerites,
Today I found what seems to be an Amanita brunnescens, in a park near my house, and surrounded by trees. I plan on drying it just for aesthetic reasons, but I was wondering (and I bet I'm a little to paranoid with this) if it could be dangerous to touch it? I mean, is it dangerous to touch it to show it and then touch my mouth for example? I KNOW it sounds stupid, but I need to be sure

Now, onto the mycoporn my friends!!

This is something, I've thought about too. Even after hearing from a notable source that toxins (of galerina in this case) cannot be absorbed through the skin.
As for sticking your hands in your mouth, I've thought the same, but I wouldn't think you could get enough to affect you.
Sometimes you stick a small piece in your mouth, of course, you spit it out, nothing happens.

I found a few of those the other day in a park near belgrave (melbourne), quite interesting to look at, they stand out so much cause of their size. I always take plenty of pictures of Amanitas, I should get some out one day soon.

The only poisoning that has occurred from touching mushrooms is that rarely a few people get contact dermatitis. This is most common with Suillus species (that slime on the cap).

You cannot be dangerously poisoned by handling mushrooms, although it is obviously wise to wash your hands afterward. I have handled countless poisonous mushrooms through the years without ever being even slightly poisoned.

Nice photos.

Happy mushrooming!
