Verm ontop of 50/50

I am curious, I am low on Peat and have extra verm. I dont' wanna buy a whole new bag of peat cause I won't use it, not that I dont' plan on growing again jsut can't for a few months. So was wondering, to conserve some of my peat for when I pick the mushrooms and cover with casing mix, for right now, I cased a container of zooms and am a bit short for my top layer. would it be possible to put straight Verm ontop. I am wondering why it won't work and what the ups and downs are to it. Also, I think my hrydrometer is fucked, so I was wonder, I have the bubbler setup in my chamber , what would be the best way to tell that I got my humidity in the right range, manually.
Thanks
Nathan

Straight verm works as a casing layer. A benefit: Straight verm doesn't contam easily. A drawback: It's hard to visually judge the moisture content with straight verm, so you gotta be careful if manually misting (easy to oversaturate).

What do you mean by one extra layer, as in seperate layers of peat and verm? I wouldn't do that. Please be more specific. Mix what you have, don't layer it. Straight peat can work as a casing layer, but straight verm is much better.

I mean, I didn't put enough to cover the substrate, you can still see soem of it, so I am short of casing mix, so I wa wodneirng if I could put pet on instead as the extra layer, or remanding layer.

I would help you further if I could, but you lost me. Maybe a fresh set of eyes can make sense of this.

wow man, i have seen you post on here so many times with questions that could be answered by searching. if your HYGROMETER is messed up go get another one. My humidity with a bubbler system works just fine. Visually you can see condensation on the walls of the tub, if it just barely visible then you should be cool, if there is alot (as in running droplets) then it is too high for casings. somewhere between 80 and 90 % for casings. good luck peace

K, well part of that i knew, I guess I should have aske, how do you decrease humidity then with this type of setup. Someone mentioned more holes. But that brings in more contam, what abotu leaveing the lid of a bit or something. Or what about the flow of the bubbles, do I want lots of bubble or just light or does that not rally affect it that much. Or temp. Anythign would be great. The one tank I have that I am worried about it a 27 gallon, I have about 2" water on the bottom, my water heater and my casing which is turing whiter every min. I have some holes on the top, like small nail size. I made a few a bit bigger. Also, when playing with humidity, if I did have say high and adjusted, should I be wiping down the hight stuff on the walls to see what happens

yes bigger holes stuffed with polyfil would help increase air exchange. don't leave the lid open a bit that would invite more contams than bigger holes on the side. yes lots of bubbles means fresh air and humidity. no light won't affect it unless it is putting off heat in the chamber. higher temps gives higher humidity, lower helps keep it down. this is your fruiting chamber and you are using a heater, what is the temp in that thing? if the walls are dripping wet then you need to do something. peace

The temp is low, I keep it at about 24 C. So if I pressure down the bubbles, will I still have decent air exchange.
I sent soem pics on another post here
