Possible to save dehydrated casings?
    #4301091 - 06/15/05 07:46 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

SWIM has two casings, one of which fared well on the first flush and one of which fared rather poorly. Both are a mix of BRF cakes and colonized popcorn. In the past, using BRF-only casings, SWIM has successfully taken all the substrate out of a casing, dunked for 12 hours, and re-cased. Would this work with such a mix of substrates? For whatever reason, dunking popcorn seems like itd be more of a task, though when SWIM dunked BRF substrate it was largely crumbled.

SWIM thinks it might be best to consolidate the two smaller casings into one larger, deeper casing that uses a bit less surface area than the two current casings (currently made from small loaf pans, not very deep, and perhaps 8" x 3" x 3.5").

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

it could be done but i rather just give a very good misting for 2 days. I wouldn't mix the 2 substrates just because they would have to recolonize again.

This is what SWIM is thinking of trying; she picked all the crappy dehydrated shrooms and added casing where huge holes were left & to the sides where the casing pulled away... she is often unsure of how much to mist, but will play around.
