Thinking of an apple, asleep, one is dreaming. Thinking of an apple, awake, one is thinking.
Bring the two together, and we are always dreaming. Thus, we dream that we are awake, just as we dream we are asleep.
Thinking of an apple, is dreaming of an apple, with focus applied by the thinker/dreamer. Dreaming of an apple is focusing on the existing apple, with focus applied by the apple.
<Can we be an apple?> One might say, and the answer is, yes and no, we can be anything, as we already are. As the human is the multidimensional being it is, we are as much in one, as in the other, simultaneously. <Where is the voice, in the head?> the voice, the thinking, the tinker, is all over. It is you and you, just like a buffer. We cannot understand what we are doing, before it is done. If someone now picks up an apple from the ground, someone will or have thought it already, but due to faculties, it will not happen before it does. Meaning if you now think of anything, you and you, will all be affected by this thought, later, as, and/or before it happened. Example, you get to drunk to want to be in your body, and escape, thus blacking out, for so to not recall anything after the blackout to the next day. Who ?takes over? control, as you black out, is you thinking later and/or before, ? this is inane to explain. I rap it again, and I probably post this.. Sue me! :P
hehe have a nice Nice!

It may be simple coincidence, but the way you write often reminds me of the Tao Te Ching, especially the first four lines of this post.

Yes, it's an ancient book of Taoist poetry. The following is the first poem (according to one translation, there are many):
The Way that can be experienced is not true; The world that can be constructed is not real. The Way manifests all that happens and may happen; The world represents all that exists and may exist.
To experience without abstraction is to sense the world; To experience with abstraction is to know the world. These two experiences are indistinguishable; Their construction differs but their effect is the same.
Beyond the gate of experience flows the Way, Which is ever greater and more subtle than the world.
The entire book is at http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/gthursby/taoism/ttcmerel.htm

For one I think as humans in the right state of mind we can actually beleive ourselves to be anything, thus making that true in our reality. But it is very difficult to smear a few moments of beleif over a lifetime of contradiction.
