G2G sterility
    #4299238 - 06/15/05 02:14 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

ok i gots myself a flow hood and i had a pint jar of WBS that was fully colonized. I transfered that to a couple reynolds containers full of a 15% poo 10% wheat bran 75% Rye. i washed my hands with alchol but ultimatley broke the cake up with my hands. Everything was sterile in this process except maybe my hands. Just wondering how you do your G2G to avoid the human contamination.

I don't trust flowhoods too much.

Basically, I just don't like the idea of air moving over my work no matter how clean it's "supposed" to be.

Gloveboxes are a way cheaper route to go and are very effective with some Lysol/Oust.

xburn- if you catch the jars at the right time you can just shake them up to seperate the kernels... then you just pour what you want into each new container and voila...

if you have already passed that point then i suppose sterilizing a metal spoon or something and just scooping would work great

oky dokey. mine where to full to shake, my mistake, expanded way to much. when you do it mattmonkey do you make it like marble sized balls is or do you actually get it to seperate kernals?

seperate kernels though some definetly dont break up all the way, when you add it to the new substrate, usually more grain, it breaks it up even more...

btw when it is time to do these transfers you can still make out individual kernels of grain in your spawning substrate..

100% colonized means that all the kernels will be coated with myc, but it will be a greyish looking, once it gets to the point of fully white it is usually too hard to break up

you can usually see growth in 2-3 days..

incubation seems essential though i may not be fully underestanding your question..

You do incubate. I think bulk manure grows generate their own heat so you do not need additional heat.

spawning your grains to your bulk substrate makes for a very fast colonization rate. spawn run after 4 days in h poo was almost fully colonized, growth was very fast from day 1. at day 5 they were cased and incubated for another day, then into the fruiting chamber.
g2g is transferring colonized grains to uncolonized grains, giving you a much faster rate of colonization. similar to an LC.
have fun
peace
