need to identify and remove a trojan
    #4298158 - 06/15/05 05:49 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

i have a trojan on my computer right now, but i don't know which one. my mcafee virus protection is up to date and it does not detect any problems at all when performing a complete scan of the c drive.

this virus is creating new folders on my desktop. i put them in the recycle bin when they appear and delete them. they have been named:

BOO (this one disappeared when my pointer hovered over it)

there were more, but i don't remember them. some of the folders have files inside. one file was name Trojan.bak and in the most recent folder, there was a bmp picture of a tiger.

my brother installed and ran limewire on this computer today, so i suspect that is where the virus came from. i'm not sure, because the virus knows my email address, so maybe it came through my email somehow??, even though i didn't download any files.

since my antivirus software can't detect this, i can't identify it. so, i don't know how to get rid of it.

does anybody here know which virus i may have here?

I have used above and http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
with some positive results, the way I have had the most success with getting rid of Trojans and viruses that wont go away, take your hard drive out and get it scanned on a clean system with an up to date virus scanner.
I had an issue once with the restore folder protecting them from online virus scanners, I shut off system restore and erased that folder, I wouldn't recommend shutting it off if you use restore. I use other backup options.
Good luck in your battle
