Will A horse poo cased indoors with no fruiting chamber still fruit?
    #4294892 - 06/14/05 03:44 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I am getting ready to have 1.5-2 gallons of colonized horse poo. I am doing some sort of outdoor bulk grow. I want to take a small amount of it and case it indoors. Im thinking like 1 pint of colonized poo in a small flower pot indoors. Case with some Jiffy mix and give it light about 6-8 hours a day. As long as i keep misting the casing layer to keep it moist will i get some fruits from the casing just at room temp. setting in my room? If not ill just do the whole thing bulk outdoor, but i wanted to try this just for fun if it could work.

yeah keep it covered keep up with air exchanges look at mono-tub double-tub setups a lot of people swear by them they work great

I dont want to use a tub or double tub or anything. Just setting out in open space, and keep the casing layer wet. Anymore ideas on if this will work or not?

Also, does dropping humidity iniate pinning or fruiting?

unless you have at least 80% humidity in the area it will be, your pins will dry out before they have a chance to grow

Ummmm...I'm not so sure. Isn't the point of the casing that it retains moisture/humidity under the casing layer? As long as he keeps it nice and moist, I think it might do okay. I would think at least something would grow.

no this probably won't work...your humidity probably isn't high enough to just let it sit out in an open room.
you would have to live where the humidity is pretty fricken high...to do an open air fruiting indoors.

dropping the humidity does not initiate fruiting.

the drop in temps, fresh air exchanges, giving it light and having the proper humidity is what initiates pinning.

If you can spare the casing and don't care if it fails, I say go for it. Imagine the first person who came up with idea of the outdoor bed or dunking and rolling. The point is you never know what will work until you try it.

Some of these old hands may have tried it already though, so that may be a moot point.

Right, as I said. Sure, it might not grow, but something might...and who knows, maybe you'll find something new?

Not to disagree with Road or anything :-)

Of course, if it's your only case, then no, I wouldn't do it. But if it's a throwaway, why not?

what if i wrapped the casing in say a wal-mart bag to keep it humid in there. take the bag off and air it out a couple times a day, and mist the bag before putting it back over the casing. If it's a small casing then the wal-mart bag should easily surround it and seal the humdity in. Maybe cut a couple holes in the wal-mart bag for extra air exchange too?

The bags are like opaque so they would allow light in too.

I've done numerous open air jars:

Just sitting next to my bed, dont mist them, fan them, or touch them, until harvest time.

A larger casing would work ok, if your 50% rh or higher, higher the better...but still might not work to well that low. You would need to mist it probably at least 3 times a day...maybe more like 5-7...lightly misting it constantly.

However I think it would do better with a bag over it removing every now and then.

deanofmean, is that an open air casing? That's damn good if it is. I was thinking something about half the size of that.

After i put the colonized poo into the pot and case do i need to cover with foil, poke holes, and let it set a few days in the dark. Then uncover, mist, and give light for pinning/fruiting? Or just case it, mist it, and leave it no foil or anything?

these were Allen strain, grown on cow manure and straw.
got 5 flushes from this bout
just cover it loosely w/ plastic wrap, to h0ld in humidity.
if you fan it, they will come

how do you cover it loosely w/ plastic if the mushrooms are sticking up past the top? It would have to lay on them. I was thinking with a small flower pot, i could just slip a big zip lock back over the top to hold in moisture. It would kind of make the pot into a little mini fruiting chamber. Just take the bag off and fan and mist it a couple times a day.

The bag could lay on them...either that way or yours works. Anything to help hold in moisture is all your really looking for.
