Completely irrelevant and nonsensical question. What exactly is the point of it? The views of the parties around then bears very little relevance to the views of the parties today. Today both the Republicans and Democrats are Federalists/Whigs and so much more. Madison was a democratic republican, the party of Jefferson and of limited government, at the time.

I guessed Republican, there are two who come to mind (both deceased)who ran for president and used libertarian sounding rhetoric.

No way was that a Democrat (and certainly no Communist), that had to have been a Republican. I'm guessing Ronald Reagan -- sounds pretty much like the phraseology he would use.
