Am i too late picking these shrooms?
    #4288947 - 06/12/05 09:02 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

My first harvest!!! this is off of 2 4oz PF cakes..

I left for vacation thursday evening. the "young" cake had just started showing pins, and the older one had some pins that had grown maybe to 1" long max, the rest were less than 1cm

so i get back on sunday night (now) and everything is ready for picking. The young cake was nice and healthy looking, and the older cake has me a bit worried. Yes i know the BLACK is from spores.. but the edges of the shrooms have that greenish tinge as you can see, and the looked a tad slimey. they were still quite firm and holding themselves up.. no aparent smell. are they alright?

and more pics of the harvest, because well.. ITS MY FIRST DAMN HARVEST!! :

it could just be a shitload of spores :frown:. But i wouldnt chance it.. It might be a black mold or some shit, does that look too paletable to you?

the black is not what i am talking about man.  when i rub the black it gets all over my hands.. its definately spores.  i am only concerned with the greenish and slight slimy texture going on there.  they have no odd smells

In your first pic it looks like you may have some bacterial blotch starting up on the left hand side cake. I would def. start harvesting sooner.

"I celebrate the Earth, my home, my mother, my grave, and as long as men are Man they must, if they would preserve the integrated being, do the same---[and preserve]--this rank casual hungry smelly sweaty lusting transitory body, my oozy pulpy liquid-bag-swollen body, bones, blood, hair glands, my bejeweled sex; I love and celebrate it all.  never to let men forget that they are animals as much as gods---that is one thing I shall say."

FYI Mych puttin cakes straight onto your hydroton is a no-no, it will just make a huge mess you should put them on lids or foil.

everything i read said that it was ok since it would feed water to the cake. but yes it did make a bit of a mess and im definately using lids from now on with some wet verm inside it.

the purpose of hydroton is...

to wick water into the cakes.

so yes you put the cakes dirrectly onto the hydroton.

Eat those!  I love em when they're purple

Well, not intentionally but sometimes they go a little too far:

Enjoy your harvest.

jesus, that is hot... my god

yea the spots where the tops get purple is funny..  they arent drying as wrinkly as the portions that arent purple.. very smooth and almost harder or something.
