Is this casing coming along fine?
    #4290438 - 06/13/05 11:02 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Here it was 2 days ago...

Here it was yesterday...(nm the cirlces...i was circling what looked to be knotting)

And here it is today

It grew to that first pic within about 36 hours of being put into the fruiting chamber, but has seemed to stall.

It is in probably 85-95% humidity, 75-78 degrees, gets fanned 3-5 times a day, and misted once or twice a day with 90%/10% water/h2o2.

Any ideas?

maybe less h2o2? since you're misting so much, u might want to cut it back a little, maybe to 3-5%

Its supposed to stall...your looking at vegetative growth. The better and quicker veg growth stalls (and the more even it is when you do) the better your fruiting cycle will begin and the better the pinsets. Veg should contine a few days after entering the fruiting chamber, then slow to a stop or crawl, then pin..

Ahh okay thanks scatman. So the vegetative growth is stopping down as the lifecycle switches to fruit growth? Cool thank you.

What do you think of that case? It's this grower's first one they've ever made...it looks more colonized on one side, doesn't it? Or is that normal?

Its not really "normal", I mean it is...but its not optimum. It should be more even. Also It looks like you used verm and something...is it coir or peat? If peat, I think you used to little, maybe even a little to little of coir. If its coir though, Id suggest switching to peat/verm for better pinsets, if you plan on doing many more casings. All in all, it doesnt look bad, and it should turn out fine..

It is peat/verm.

It was measured about 50/50. Would 60/40 peat/verm be better? The peat tek said 50/50.

Here's the whole log

I dont measure it myself...but I think my verm would be about 50/50 if you added both at field capacity....verm expands alot when you add water to it. I soak the peat first...then dump it on my strainer and start mixing in dry verm until it looks about half and half to me...whatever it is, its more peat and less verm then you have I think...not much maybe with your measurement abouts 60/40 might be better...IMO.

Hmm yeah if verm expands when wet than it may actually be more verm than peat. This will be kept in mind next time.
