What happened to the war on terror?

Seriously, I used to hear about it every day on the news, now they never talk about it. Of course Bush used it to garner support, which is pretty disgusting IMO, seeing as its basically exploiting the death's of others, but why hasn't there been any headlines recently? Have I just managed to miss them?

There have been a few headlines (like Al Qaeda's #3 being nabbed in Pakistan).
But, Iraq now occupies most of the headlines. While the Bush administration likes to use the line of "Iraq is crucial to the War on Terror effort", people and the news media see the current Iraq situation for what it really is; a well organized insurgent movement that is in opposition to American troops being there.

Once again you confuse the US with the current US government. It would be like me assuming that all Europeans are no different than Blair which obviously is not the case. Just because the US population is a bunch of sheep that are easily misled does not mean that the US population is somehow evil.

Tune in to Fox News, man. They still try to squeeze two or three stories a day under their over-the-top animated WAR ON TERROR graphic.

It's funny how I keep hearing "dont blame US, blame the current goverment". Leaders of the US (your representatives) has financed dictators and fucked up the world for a looooong time. some examples

Um...yes. The insurgent movement that is operating in Iraq right now does appear to be well-organized. How is that statement innaccurate?

There is no question at all that you are correct, but again, the people are being duped. Europe has an advantage here because no single country rules everybody. Maybe something is covered up by UK media, but the French press will splater it all over, etc. Most Americans believe what the evening news (or CNN) tells them to, regardless of reality. Sad, but true...

Its just people with guns, rockets and grenades, shooting people and blowing stuff up. Not much organisation is needed for this...

I can't find it again, but there was an interview that I read from Moby after he had been to Kosovo. Apperently according to him the avarage Kosovo family belived what there government was doing was correct. This is because all they saw about it on the news was that there government was killing drug rebals, not Serbs.. (I might have the details a little of it was a while ago)
I don't know personally if Americans have been this blinded, because I have not been to the middle east, and do not plan to go. But it would not supprise me, at all.

"The War on Terror" is total nonsense. Terror is not a country nor a people nor an ideology, but a methodology. If the USA is against a methodology and dropping bombs on civilians and breaking into their homes with armed soldiers and sometimes shooting unarmed civilians is not "terror", then I do not know what is.
So in summation, we are "against terror" except when using it.

i don't think the comparison works. all americans (myself included) have GW as their president. for the overwhelming majority of europeans, blair is nothing but a foreign politician having little to do with them. europe is made of a lot of different countries, dontyaknow?

Following the skewed 'logic' that the terrorists 'hate us for our freedoms,' the current powers that be are doing what they do best, laying down the law so as to eliminate the various reasons terrorists hate us.

it is kind of ironic isn't it? I laughed when I read that. We are fighting people who "hate us for our freedoms", all the while the Bush admin is taking away our freedoms.

Actually it wasn't the #3 Al Qaeda (I like to call it Al CIAeda) guy that they captured, but dont expect to hear much about it in any of the mainstream American press:
