Casing FAQ

Hello,

I am fairly new to growing, and I have seen the topic of casing being thrown around quite a bit. I have a fuzzy idea of what it is, but I haven't been able to find a link to a FAQ or anything on it. Basically what I want to know is what is casing and what are the advantages of it? Is it easier, does it yield more? does it flush more times? whats all the hype about?
