A Bolete in my back yard.
    #4289549 - 06/13/05 01:36 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Im pretty sure this is my yearly back yard boletes they happen every early summer   (not asking for Id unless you want to stab at the exact bolete!! )

OH also notice the pecan tree pollen flower thingys (they are kinda dark orange yellow...) Also a pecan is just below the bolete too  I think mushrooms love fruit dropping trees(nut type), i found agaricus mushrooms under a (birch??) tree in my backyard, the kind that have little rust brown colored balls that are all spikey and about the size of a quarter but a sphere.

For some reason it doesn't look like a bolete to me.. more like an amanita. Did you check under the cap for gills?

No harm can come from questioning. "Best" case scenerio: You prove it right without relying on the fact that it is widely accepted. Argument strengthened. "Worst" case scenerio: You realize you might have been wrong. The new answer might or might not be what you want to hear, but it beats defending yourself with bullshit.

Its great to see how obsessed the shroomery is with IDing shrooms. The poor guy didnt even want an ID.
I agree, Amanita. But uhh... Amanita var. formosa is missing a species guys... "Genus ??? race"

They're referring to Amanita muscaria var. formosa, although I wouldn't put any money on that specimen being one. There are waaaaay too many Amanitas that look similar to that to even guess on species. To start we'd need to see the volva and stem base.

Happy mushrooming!
